Discover the Essence of Hatha Yoga Switzerland
The word “Hatha” comes from “Ha” = Sun, “Tha” = Moon. Hatha yoga is the process of preparing the body for the experience of samadhi. Here, the body includes all the layers of our being (for example, physical, emotional, energetic, mental layers). One of Hatha’s benefits is a deepening relationship with the self.
All hatha practices should be seen with the greater framework of the 8 limbs as taught by Patanjali in the Yoga Sutra. Swatmarama in his well-known text “Hatha Yoga Pradipika” instructs the purpose of hatha is “only for (raja yoga) the highest state of yoga”.
Hatha is the best known branch of the practical science that is yoga. This might be due to the level of identification with the physical body of our society.
At the core of hatha practice is mindfulness, self-observation and witnessing one’s own body moving in space. Then, as our level of concentration increases, and we become more in tune with our being, other layers become part of our conscious awareness.
Therefore, hatha for us, is not about coming into a bird of paradise pose, or a full locust pose, it is about experiencing fully each moment. Both beginners and experienced practitioners can evolve by way of deepening their levels of awareness and concentration.
Why Practice Hatha Yoga Regularly?
There are physical, energetic and mental benefits, but before that, please take note that the greater benefit is the re-integration of the Being. Yoga reshapes us as whole humans, not a set of fragmented parts. Hatha yoga works by integrating the whole being, so the physical, emotional and mental become one. For example, if you improve your posture, then you will feel uplifted, healthy, stronger and those are mental benefits and energetic benefits too!!
That said, i will give you a fragmented list:
- improve posture
- Maintains a healthy distribution of muscle mass.
- Increases and diversifies a rich diet of movement. Keeping joints and fascia supple and mobile.
- Decrease body tension
- Increase in energy
- Decrease emotional tension
- Feeling of being grounded and balanced
- Stop mental rumination
- Increase focus
- Trains concentration
- Calms the mind
